Calorie Calculator
Find how many calories your body uses each day, and how many to eat to lose or gain weight at a safe pace — using the Mifflin-St Jeor equation recommended for healthy adults.
Calculate your daily calories
Activity factors
| Activity level | Multiply BMR by |
|---|---|
| Sedentary — desk job, little or no exercise | 1.2 |
| Lightly active — light exercise 1–3 days a week | 1.375 |
| Moderately active — moderate exercise 3–5 days a week | 1.55 |
| Very active — hard exercise 6–7 days a week | 1.725 |
| Extra active — physical job or training twice a day | 1.9 |
How it is calculated
10 × weight (kg) + 6.25 × height (cm) − 5 × age + 5
10 × weight (kg) + 6.25 × height (cm) − 5 × age − 161
BMR × activity factor
± 7,700 kcal per kg, spread over 7 days (0.5 kg a week = 550 kcal a day)
The Mifflin-St Jeor equation predicts resting energy to within about 10% for most healthy adults. It is less reliable for very muscular people, during pregnancy or illness, and for teenagers.
Plans that would take you below about 1,200 kcal a day (women) or 1,500 kcal a day (men) are flagged, because intakes that low are normally only followed under medical supervision.
