Lal Bahadur Shastri Ji
Shastri ji’s life journey was very simple and ordinary but was also full of high thoughts. Shastri ji was born to Sharada Prasad Srivastava and Ramdulari Devi in mughalsarai on 2 october 1904 . he studied in East Central Railway inter college and Harish Chandra High School , which he left to join the non-cooperation movement .
Although his family had no connection with the freedom movement going on at that time, among his teachers at Harish Chandra High School was an extremely patriotic and highly respected teacher named Nishkameshwar Prasad Mishra, who gave Shastri ji much-needed financial support by allowing him to tutor his children. Inspired by Mishra’s patriotism, Shastri ji took a deep interest in the freedom struggle, and began to study its history and the works of several of its noted personalities, including those of Swami Vivekananda, Mahatma Gandhi and Annie Besant.
After India’s independence, Shastri ji was appointed Parliamentary Secretary in his home state, Uttar Pradesh. After Rafi Ahmed Kidwai became a minister at the Centre, on 15 August 1947, he became the Minister of Police and Transport during the Chief Ministership of Govind Ballabh Pant.
In 1951, when Jawaharlal Nehru was Prime Minister, Shastri ji was made the General Secretary of the All India Congress Committee. He was directly responsible for the selection of candidates and directing campaign and election related activities. He served as Minister of Commerce and Industry in 1959 and Home Minister in 1961. Shastri ji, as a minister without portfolio, laid the foundation of Mangalore Port in 1964.
Due to Nehru’s death in office on 27 May 1964, Shastri ji was declared Prime Minister on 9 June 1964.
Shastri ji of calm nature, when disaster struck the country in 1965, he gave free rein to the Indian Army to give a befitting reply to Pakistan. and Shastri ji raised the slogan keeping in mind two important parts of the country.
” Jai Jawan Jai Kisan “
Shastri ji died on 11 January 1966 in Tashkent, Uzbekistan, a day after the signing of the peace treaty to end the 1965 India–Pakistan War.
He has taught the country to move forward by making honesty and decency the wheels of his chariot.
